SURGICAL TREATMENT OF OSMIDROSIS BY SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE SHAVING TECHNIQUHE
Park Myong-Chul

Abstract
Excessive perspiration of axillae results in physical discomfort as well as foul odor. Foul odor is caused by bacterial decomposition in the apocrine sweat gland and is called osmidrosis. Complete removal of sweat glands from axillae is essential for the treatment. Though surgical ablation of sweat glands from axillae can be variously performed. One cannot easily expect to obtain perfect result. Subcutaneous tissue shaver was introduced for this purpose. With it, one can easily remove the subcutaneous tissue of the axillae, including the sweat glands up to the level of fullthickness skin. The author applied subcutaneous tissue shaver on the 51 patients of osmidrosis and reviewed the results regarding to odor, perspiration, axillary hair growth, scarring of axillae and subjective satisfaction.

We came to conclusion that:

1.Sweat glands can be removed without sacifying the axillary skin.

2.Operation time can be shortened without compromising the result.

3.Operation scar is minimal. Manual

4.Manual resection of sweat glands must be added after subcutaneous shaving to prevent recurrence of foul odor.
